Sometimes you do not need a template for a particular trade, just a clean blank invoice with the right fields in the right places. A blank invoice works for one-off jobs, odd jobs, selling a used item, or any work that does not fit a category.
Pick a layout below and it loads as an empty invoice in the editor on this page. Type straight onto the page or use the form, and the totals add up as you go. Download a PDF to email, or print it and fill it in by hand.
The same empty invoice in three styles, with no sample content. Click one to load it into the editor below; your saved draft isn't replaced until you start typing.
Tip: copy rows from Excel or Google Sheets and paste them into any line.
Rename any label printed on the invoice. You can also click a label on the preview.
A blank invoice still has to be a complete invoice. Fill in these fields before you send it.
Three simple lines for a one-off yard job, the kind of work a blank invoice is made for.
| Description | Qty | Rate | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lawn mowing, front and back | 1 | $60.00 | $60.00 |
| Hedge trimming (hours) | 2 | $35.00 | $70.00 |
| Green waste haul-away | 1 | $25.00 | $25.00 |
| Total due | $155.00 | ||
Nothing on a blank invoice is fixed: rename any label, add custom fields, or switch on shipping, discount and notes when you need them.
Starting from a blank page is quick once you know the order. Work from the top down: who is billing, who is paying, which invoice this is, what it is for and how to pay. Fill in the editor below in that order and the invoice is complete by the time you reach the bottom; the form shows which steps are still missing. Anything you do not need, such as shipping or a discount, stays switched off and does not print. Nothing on the page is fixed, so rename any label that doesn't fit your work, such as “Hours” instead of “Qty”.
Two habits save time later. Save your business name, logo and payment details in the Brand Kit, so every blank invoice starts with them filled in. And keep one numbering sequence for all your invoices: the generator suggests the next number after each download, which beats trying to remember where you left off. It also keeps your records in order for tax time, because every invoice can be found by its number. The Brand Kit and your invoice numbers are stored in this browser only, so use the same browser each time.
A printed blank invoice is handy for jobs where you write the bill on site. Pick a blank layout, add only what should be preprinted (your business name, logo, address and payment details) and leave the client and line items empty. Choose the paper size that matches your printer: US Letter in the US and Canada, A4 almost everywhere else. The editor prints the invoice as sharp vector text through your browser, sized to that page. Leave enough empty line items for the kind of jobs you do; you can add rows in the editor before printing. Check the preview before printing, because it shows exactly what will come out of the printer.
In the browser's print dialog, turn off headers and footers so the page address and date don't print on the invoice, keep the scale at 100% and use the default margins. Print a small stack and number each sheet by hand in sequence, or type the next invoice number before each print. If you'd rather keep a digital master, download the PDF of the preprinted blank and print from that. Keep the carbonless habit in mind: give the client the original and keep a photo or copy for your own records. A pack of numbered sheets on a clipboard is often all a mobile tradesperson needs.
For one-off work, “Due on receipt” or a short term like Net 7 is reasonable. For business clients who pay on a cycle, Net 30 is common. Whatever you choose, write it on the invoice and set a matching due date.
If you are asked for a receipt afterwards, you can reopen the invoice from your recent invoices, record the payment in Amount paid, and download it again showing a zero balance.
If you want a printable blank invoice to fill in by hand, open a blank layout, add your own business details and print it. Everything else can be written in with a pen.
Starting from an empty invoice.
An invoice with the standard fields (your details, the client's details, invoice number, dates, line items and totals) but no content filled in. You add your own details for each job.
Yes. Pick a blank layout on this page, add anything you want preprinted such as your business name and logo, then use Print or download the PDF.
A template comes with sample content for a type of work, such as hourly lines or labor and materials. A blank invoice has the same structure with nothing filled in.
Yes. Save your business name, logo and payment details in the Brand Kit. New blank invoices start with them already filled in, in this browser.
That is your browser's print header and footer. Turn off Headers and footers in the print dialog and the page prints with only the invoice.
